World Language Option at Mahomet Seymour High School
for 8 th Graders
There are 60 seats for Spanish and 30 seats for French available for the
2017-2018 school year. Students are placed in these classes based on the
following criteria:
● Average of B or higher in 7 th grade ELA classes
● Winter MAP RIT score
● Registration information turned in by March 17 th , 2017 to the Jr. High
Office
● Ability to provide own transportation to the High School for the 7:30 am
start time (Students will be transported back to the Jr. High after class via
school bus.)
Students that have been successful in Spanish and French excel at the following:
● Organization
● Time management
● Strong study skills
Taking a World Language as an 8 th grader allows students to begin high school in
the second year of the language and take five years (AP French/Spanish) of the
language by the time they graduate from high school. It also allows students to
meet world language requirements for college earlier during high school,
thereby allowing more electives to be taken in their junior or senior years.
